How fees work

What most people ask before a first session, answered once, with no figures to decode.

  • Insurance we work with

Vestige does not bill insurance. Sessions are self-pay, and the monthly receipt below lets you ask a plan that reimburses out-of-network care to pay part of it back. Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted. If you would rather see someone who bills your plan, Yvette will give you the names of colleagues.

    • Self-pay, with a receipt

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

  • If you pay yourself

What sets the fee is the length of the session: a standard session is 50 minutes, and a shorter one is offered when a full session is too much for the day. You pay by card at the end of each session, and HSA and FSA cards work. A small number of reduced-fee spots are held for people on a fixed income or with high medical costs; ask when you write. Your fee is given to you in writing before you start.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

At the end of each month you receive an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and the kind of session, which a plan that covers out-of-network care may reimburse in part. It carries a diagnosis code, and your insurer will see it. Whether a plan pays anything is up to the plan, so ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. You get yours in writing before the first session. If a bill comes to $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. An estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

Because Vestige does not bill your plan, no one checks your benefits for you. If you want to claim part of the cost back, call your plan before the first session and ask about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits.

Three more questions about paying

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. Cards from a health savings or flexible spending account work like any other card.

What if my treatment has used up my budget?

Ask about the reduced-fee spots when you write. A small number are held for people with high medical costs or a fixed income.

Do you give a fee before I start?

Yes, always in writing, before the first session.

Ready to write?

Your fee is given in writing before you start, and nothing is charged for writing.
